The celebration marks the completion of the King Street redevelopment
A summer ‘street warming’ party will take over Stretford town centre on Saturday 23 August, marking the completion of King Street - the first phase of Stretford town centre’s wider regeneration project.
Visitors will be able to walk down an open-air King Street for the first time in over 60 years, marking a major milestone in the development journey. A range of new retailers and businesses are expected to move into the freshly finished units over the coming months.
The celebration will give the community a first glimpse of the transformed street as well as the newly created Sir Tony Lloyd Square; a space designed for everyone to explore, relax and connect. Celebrations start at 11am, in true Stretford style with town crier Andy Simpkins. From 12-6pm, guests can enjoy a fun-filled day of live music, activities and family-friendly entertainment. Expect everything from pop-up stalls and raffles to food and drink from local traders including Beatties Bakery, Head Bar and Gigis.
Local non-for-profit sound collective, Amplify, will also be delivering an exciting programme of entertainment, DJs, bands including Sale Brass Band and more from the community with all profits from the day going to Trafford Food Bank.
Future phases of Stretford’s redevelopment will include much-needed new homes, including affordable housing, alongside a new park and community spaces.
Abby Barker, Events and Community Manager from Bruntwood said: “We can’t wait to celebrate the completion of King Street - and what better way than by bringing the whole community together for a big summer street party? There will be plenty of entertainment, activities and loads of delicious food and drink to enjoy, making it a great day out for the whole family. We’re looking forward to the buzz and energy that this event will bring to Stretfordtown centre - see you there!”
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “The street warming party is the perfect event for guests to come together with friends and neighbours to celebrate the newly restored King Street, part of Bruntwood and Trafford Council’s town centre masterplan to provide a thriving high street with a mix of shops and services, hospitality and spaces for the community.
“Trafford Council is committed to the regeneration of our town centres and helping provide a thriving economy in the borough. More details of the retailers set to open on the high street will be announced in the coming weeks.”
