MANCHESTER taxi firm Street Cars started in 2002 as a family business with just three vehicles. Just over ten years later, they are now the largest, fastest growing fleet in the city with 500 vehicles including saloons, estate cars and minibuses.

Their new free App for iPhone and Android allows customers to book their cab with the option of selecting a map position or simply typing in a street name or postcode. Customers can then track their car in ‘real time’, so you'll never be palmed off with a dismissive 'it's on it's way' phone call. Street Cars is the official Private Hire Taxi Supplier for the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Salford University and the Royal Northern College of Music. In partnership with Student Unions, they operate a ‘Safe Taxi Scheme’ whereby students can offer University ID in lieu of payment if they're really stuck to get home. All students with a valid University I.D or NUS card are entitled to 10% discount off their metered fare.
Other safety measures include strict driver checks, clearly marked and licensed cabs and the same rate applies day or night, so fares don’t increase after midnight.
