STEPHEN Sancroft, 38 of North Reddish has been jailed for five and a half years today after police found up to 3,156 individual £20 wraps of crack and 805 £20 wraps of heroin beneath his driver’s seat on Tuesday 21 May. Equating to nearly £80k worth of drugs sold at street level.

"At the first mention of drugs he bolted and a search of his car revealed exactly why. With a previous conviction for drugs offences he clearly did not want to be caught.

Stephen SancroftStephen SancroftInitially pulled over by police on Stockport Road for driving while on his mobile phone and performing dangerous manoeuvres, Sancroft became noticeably agitated when two detectives from the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Didsbury began asking routine questions.

Detective Constable Dave Bird said, “As an experienced officer you know when a routine stop is not routine and immediately Sancroft's behaviour aroused our suspicion.

"At the first mention of drugs he bolted and a search of his car revealed exactly why. With a previous conviction for drugs offences he clearly did not want to be caught.

"Unfortunately for him we were equally determined not to let him get away and with the help of radio operators and colleagues he was quickly apprehended.”

Sancroft has previously spent two years in prison for possession with intent to supply crack.
