A block party like no other thanks to Bollox, Unabomber and The Blessed Madonna
We already remember, remember the fifth of November thanks to that Catholic Guy and his gunpowder plot, but this year the likes of Honey Dijon and Horse Meat Disco are making sure Mayfield truly goes off on November fifth.
A night like this demands big names, and founder Luke Unabomber and his team have provided Mancs with just that
Set up as a club night way back in 1997, the last Homobloc at Mayfield Depot was all about Corbin Shaw's flags and an antithesis to “the bullshit and the aggression" that a rave can provide. Back by popular demand, this year's event is ready to "reunite the clans once again in the magical home of Depot Mayfield", and we've got the lowdown on line-ups and collaborations.
There are also charities involved, communities to support, and pre-sale dates that are way sooner than you'd think.
A cracking coalition
Homobloc is known and long-commended for its ability to unite artists and performers whilst celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. With productions and performances that support some amazing charities and the incredible work that they do, it's a proper disco with a difference.
Seen as "one of the greatest coalitions of the LGBTQ+ community", Homobloc is currently working with the likes of the LGBT Foundation, The Proud Trust, and George House Trust, all of which provide support, advice and information to the LGBTQ+ population in Greater Manchester and beyond.
As Mr Andy Burnham himself states, "Homobloc is such an important date for many people as it brings the community together under one roof - from dancing and performing, to fundraising". Get your disco shoes on then DJ Burnham.
This year's Homobloc club event is titled "Step Into The Light", and just like previous events, it's set to take place at Depot Mayfield. Ever the maze of stages and strobe lighting, the event will take over three stages including Depot, Concourse and Archive.
However, because two venues full of good vibes is always better than one, the legendary pub Star & Garter will also host a special "Bollox presents Homosquat" takeover with a line-up that's just as magical as Mayfield's. If you don't know the Star & Garter, listen to Modern Love by The Courteeners or go to the Morrissey disco.
Leak the line-up already
A night like this demands big names, and founder Luke Unabomber and his team have provided Mancs with just that. You're also gonna need to pace yourself as the tunes take over from 2pm 'til 4am.
At Mayfield, line-up headliners include Róisín Murphy, Honey Dijon, The Blessed Madonna, Horse Meat Disco, HAAi, Job Jobse, and Shanti Celeste. There are also featured acts with incredible names like Fuck Pigs, Little Gay Brother, and Banksie, so you best get on a move on and curate a Homo-inspired Spotify playlist.
The Star & Garter will also play host to Grove, Supernature, Queer Latifah and Philippa Jarman amongst many others. A full list of all the next-level acts on the line-up can be found on Homobloc's website too. There are a couple of cheeky un-announced acts too so keep your eyes peeled for those.
Presale deets and powerful capabilities
Tickets for Step Into The Light: Homobloc 2022 are available on pre-sale from Thursday 21 July from 10am via the Homobloc website. The general sale then begins on Friday 22 July from 10am.
If you're part of the Homobloc family, or have attended the event previously, you can also sign up for priority access with your email. Bonus.
Rod Connolly from Homobloc, said: “We are excited to announce a powerful Homobloc festival programme that unites the biggest International and homegrown LGBTQ+ artists, with a clear spotlight on the wonderfully diverse nightlife community that Manchester is world famous for. Following a challenging year for LGBTQ+ rights, the time is now for everyone to come together, step into the light and recharge the city’s vibrant queer energy once more.”
You'd be daft to miss this one, and in case you already forgot the rhyme, remember, remember the 5th of November. From 2pm - 4am to be precise.
