GUESS what the most popular New Year's resolution will be this year? That’s right, better health and fitness. It’s the goal many of us are striving for, and the goal many of us are missing.

A new health and fitness centre has opened in Manchester that aims to help you stay on track with your health regime next year, without getting derailed by injury or slipping back into old habits.

“Our instructors will help you prevent injuries and stay on track in terms of posture, fitness and flexibility”

Smarter Rehab helps people get fit, and stay fit, through small-size exercise classes, boot camps, physiotherapy, injury rehabilitation, and nutrition advice.

The studios, which are on King Street West near House of Fraser, were set up by Nicola Charnock one of Manchester’s leading sports rehab practitioners and her partner Paul Dickinson.

Nicola has worked for Manchester United and England Rugby and now works heavily with triathletes, ironman, professional boxers and Premier League footballers.

She said: “Office workers who sit at a desk for eight hours a day find their strength, flexibility and vitality suffering through bad posture and poor eating habits. People who exercise regularly can find their fitness regime cut short by niggling pains and strains that take months to recover from.

“We run fitness classes at lunch times and after-work that aim to combat the issues that can prevent you from staying healthy.”

Classes include small group yoga and pilates which give you much more attention and guidance than you get in a standard-size classes.

The Yoga Rooms at Smarter Rehab holds classes that provide a range of classes to suit your level of experience. You don't have to be young, thin, flexible or vegan to join a class, just an open mind.

Exclusive to Smarter Rehab is the trainer of champions, Bob Shannon, world-class boxing trainer to professional boxers including Ricky Hatton. Bob will be bringing hardcore boxing training to the city centre via his private sessions.

Also on the team, therapist Neil Day, has been working in the fitness industry for over 15 years. He has lectured for the FA on functional training and worked with football teams and individuals in the UK and abroad. His knowledge is unique and almost intuitive, having a natural affinity with how the body functions biomechanically.

Smarter Rehab also offers Tai Chi classes instructed by world-respected Aamir Rafi. Aamir is dedicated in delivering an authentic Tai Chi and Qigong experience to all.

Wayne Richardson, an accomplished strength and conditioning coach, has a unique sport services company that can train you like a footballer at Smarter Rehab. Manchester City and Leeds United have called upon his services as a personal trainer.

Zumba, circuit training, bootcamps and core stability classes are just some of the other classes held at Smarter Rehab.

They also have a free weekly running club on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings.

There are showers and changing facilities so it's easy to fit in around your working day. Other services offered include physiotherapy, deep tissue sports massage, relaxation massage, podiatry, and rehabilitation from sports injuries, falls or operations.

Nicola added: “Our therapists, podiatrist, nutritionists and physical instructors all work together to help with your personal needs right through to working in conjunction with personal trainers to specifically rehabilitate. We are here to get you back to full fitness.”
