TIMEKEEPERS Square, the next stage in Salford's £650m Chapel Street and New Bailey regeneration project, is about to get underway.

“The city of Salford is benefitting enormously from the changes being brought about by the ongoing regeneration scheme"
The 36 townhouse scheme - set amongst the cobbled Georgian surrounds of Sir Robert Smirke's St Philip's Church (completed in 1824) - follows the construction of two new hotels, the 75-bed Ainscow Hotel and the 143-bed Premier Inn; 97 apartments and townhouses at Vimto Gardens; a 615-space multi-storey car park and 125,000 sq ft of office space at One New Bailey.
The 44-acre regeneration scheme - delivered by the English Cities Fund (ECf)* in partnership with Salford City Council - is the largest ever planning application undertaken by the city and aims to deliver 11,000 new jobs, 849 new homes and 390 hotel rooms by 2018.
Plans for Timekeepers Square - named due to its location beneath the four clock faces of St Philip's - were approved in March with completion expected sometime next year.
Designed by Buttress Architects - the firm behind the restoration of the Hallé St Peter's - Timekeepers Square will be split into six blocks with a centralised, tree-lined courtyard and offer a mix of two, three and four bedroomed townhouses with private gardens and/or roof terraces.
Phil Mayall, development director at ECf, said: “The city of Salford is benefitting enormously from the changes being brought about by the ongoing regeneration scheme.
"A key part of this is offering more housing; Vimto Gardens sold out entirely off-plan after it was launched last July and there was a huge demand for the 14 townhouses within the development. Timekeepers Square will offer a mixture of two, three and four-bedroomed townhouses with gardens and parking – a hugely desirable entity in city centre living.”
