CHRISTMAS is a time for sharing, apart from when there are lightly charcoaled chicken satay skewers involved. Sakana's platter of bar snacks is designed to be devoured between two, but nobody will mind if you order one each. At £9.50 per platter, you can afford to be greedy.

Pair your platter with a glass of mulled wine, or a sparkling flute of prosecco.

Sakana on Peter Street is well placed for a Christmas meet-up, being just minutes from Deansgate and the Christmas markets. This glitzy pan-Asian restaurant and bar brings together Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Korean cuisine, and the bar snacks platter is a little microcosm of this approach.

It's beautifully presented on a stylish black slate, and garnished with salad and edible flowers. This is the kind of dish you'll want to share virtually on Instagram before you share it between you.

It features vegetable spring rolls which are crispy, generously-filled and great for dipping. The Thai-spiced prawn crackers are huge, crunchy and very fresh. We loved their sophisticated take on salt and pepper chips. Perfectly seasoned with Chinese spices and fresh chilli, they showed how good this takeaway favourite can be when done right.

The chicken satay skewers were another highlight: tender, lightly grilled, and served with a scrumptious peanut satay sauce with big chunks of peanut for added texture.

Pair your platter with a glass of mulled wine, or a sparkling flute of prosecco. Sakana's fusion-inspired cocktail list is well worth exploring too.

If you're looking for a destination for drinks with food on the side this Christmas, the bar at Sakana won't disappoint. Why not treat yourself and a friend this week?
