Over 100 hookahs, shisha specialist and a garden veranda…grab a cocktail and enjoy
GOOD weather has finally arrived, and there are few better places to enjoy it than Scene. The Spinningfields Indian restaurant ticks all the boxes: garden veranda, great cocktails and mocktails, light street food bites and even a shisha specialist.
A mainstay of Eastern culture, shisha has now become a popular way to socialise in the West too, with people often enjoying this relaxing pastime for hours.
Preparing the ornate hookahs is quite an art form: not only do Scene have a resident specialist, they also import the best quality shisha from Dubai. Even the charcoal is special, with a hint of coconut.
There are many flavours to choose from - from smooth and aromatic to strong and full-bodied - and you can combine several, add a fresh fruit head or a juice base.
We visited one sunny lunchtime and plumped for apple with a pineapple head, accompanied by a crop of Scene’s signature cocktails for good measure. Let’s just say we didn’t budge all afternoon…
Cocktails, by the way, are just as impressive. Our faves include Indian Rose Delight (Old Cherry Rum, Velvet Falernum, rose syrup, lime juice, cranberry juice), Bombay Bonfire (Chivas Regal, lemon juice, honey and ginger syrup, atomised Laphroaig) and Dhania (Beefeater Gin, coriander syrup, fresh orange, coriander leaves) but there are plenty more where they came from, along with refreshing mocktails if you’re teetotalling.
Scene’s veranda is perfect for sunny weather. You’re covered (quite literally) if the weather changes too, and there are heaters to boot: this is the UK after all.
Whether weekend or evening or after-work outing, this place really sets the Scene.
Must be over 18 to smoke. No under 18s allowed on the veranda when the shisha is being used.
