100 YEARS ago, three suffragettes – Annie Briggs, Evelyn Manesta and Lillian Forrester attacked a number of pictures in the Manchester Art Gallery as part of a militant campaign for votes for women.
To reflect on the continuing legacy of these women, creative events group Un-Convention has putt together an evening to co-incide with International Womens Day and as part of “Wonder Women: Radical Manchester” in the Art Gallery's established Thursday Lates series.
The punk trio were sentenced to two years imprisonment for “hooliganism” last year following a video of them protesting in opposition of Russian leader Vladimir Putin in a church was published online.
The free event takes place on 7 March from 6pm-8.45pm in the beautiful surroundings of Manchester Art Gallery.
Un-Conventional Women: Pussy Riot is the second in the series and aims to bring awareness to the most current issues arising in feminism around the world, focusing specifically on the recent events in Russia with the Pussy Riot trials.

Their subsequent treatment by the authorities was seen by many including The White House as very severe and unjust.
The programme for the evening will include the readings of the three testimonials from the controversial Pussy Riot trials.

The main portion of the evening will be dedicated to a discussion panel exploring political protest, feminism and particularly feminism in music, from girl power to underground feminist rock movement Riot Grrrl.
Contributors to the panel will include: Jayne Casey, Tracey Moberly, Steph Pike and Laura Kidd (She Makes War).
Pike and She Makes War will also perform as part of a spoken word and live music portion of the event alongside Alex Keelan and Liz Green.
