FOR nearly four decades the Caribbean Carnival of Manchester has been illuminating Moss Side and surrounding areas with dance, music, processions, costume and traditional food from the Caribbean islands.
True to tradition, the parade will wind through Moss Sides, with steel pans, dance and peacock-bright costumes.
This year the carnival returns to its spiritual home of Alexandra Park on Saturday 8 - Sunday 9 August, with the help of the Red Bull Music Academy sound system
The RBMA stage will host a combination of international and homegrown heavyweights, including original drum and bass pioneer DJ Shy FX, for a bass-heavy, pulsating daytime party.
True to tradition, the parade will wind through Moss Side, with steel drums, dance and peacock-bright costumes.
Starting at 12:30pm on Saturday, the procession begins at Alexandra Park before moving to Chichester Road, Hulme High Street, Quinney Crescent, Great Western Street, Lloyd Street, Claremont Street before returning back to the park.
Alongside Shy FX, who join forces once more with the legendary MC Stamina, the festival line-up includes BBC Radio 1’s airwaves sonic selector Toddla-T and Manchester-native Chimpo who fuses grime, dubstep, trap, garage.
Other highlights include one of Manchester’s electronic godfathers Zed Bias Presents Madd Again Soundsystem with Trigga, Specialist Moss and Killa Benz .
Leading up to the carnival, weekend organisers have been hosting workshops for the local community including calypso music and costume making tutorials.
