ONE Angel Square, The Co-operative Group’s new Manchester head office, has won the Property Project Award at the 2013 2degrees Sustainability Champions Awards.
One Angel Square has been designed to deliver a 50 per cent reduction in energy consumption compared to the current Manchester complex and an 80 per cent reduction in carbon. This will lead to a reduction in operating costs of up to a third.
Guy Lee-Potter, Retail Estates Energy Manager with The Co-operative Group, said: “2degrees is the world’s largest community for sustainability and is only open to qualified sustainability practitioners, so to win this award, voted for by our peers, is very special. The environmental credentials of One Angel Square are unrivalled, and we are delighted that they have been recognised by 2degrees."

The building is powered by a pure plant oil fed Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system and utilises rapeseed oil which is grown on The Co-operative’s own farm land. Excess energy can be supplied back to the grid and utilised by the wider NOMA development, with waste energy being sent through an absorption chiller, used to cool the building.
