Vegan food is hot right now and we know a thing or two about that here at Lily’s. We’ve been at the forefront of vegetarian Indian cuisine for a number of years, making it into top ten lists and the Good Food Guide with our fresh, vibrant meat-free dishes.
Think traditional soups, snacks, street food and sweets from right across the country thanks to our four chefs who hail from all four corners of India: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Mumbai and the south.
Their favourite vegan picks? Try starting with a Punjabi Samosa Chat – featuring plenty of sweet onions and layered up with boiled potatoes, crunchy Bombay mix, fruity chutneys and soya yogurt.
For main course, we’re torn between the tomato-based tofu kadai curry with vegan naan, paratha or herby rice, or one of our various South Indian uttapam – similar to a dosa and looking like an omelette (without the eggs!), it has the ingredients cooked right into the rice flour-based batter.
We also specialise in dairy-free desserts, and right now we’re nuts about our pretty sugar-dusted diamond-shaped cashew barfi and the date, pistachio, cashew and almond sticky layer cake.
For distinctive, colourful, flavour-filled veggie and vegan dishes, you can’t go far wrong – plus we’re easy to find, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Ashton tram stop, and a quick trip from the city centre.
