The whole of Manchester is invited to Sadler’s Yard for a good, old-fashioned gathering

Manchester is invited to get stuck into NOMA’s take on a traditional summer fête.

On Sunday 31 August, pop down to the city centre neighbourhood for bunting, baking, folk music and all your favourite childhood traditions.

The event marks 10 years of Sadler’s Yard, the beating heart of the NOMA neighbourhood. As of 2015, the yard was the city’s first public square built in a hundred years, named by public vote after James Sadler – balloonist, chemist, pastry chef, and first man (with a cat) to launch into the skies from this very neighbourhood.

Expect:

  • Live folk music
  • Plant sales
  • Bake sales
  • A vegetable competition judged (with absolutely no authority)
  • Cookery demos, with pastry, of course
  • Cat portraiture by Mr Gordo
  • The first official public gathering of people named James (bring your James to claim a commemorative badge!)
  • Much more
