WORK has started on 144 new flats at the second phase of the Milliners Wharf development in Ancoats.
The new 'Hat Box' scheme for New Islington follows news earlier in the year of a newly established partnership between Manchester City Council and Abu Dhabi United Group that promises to deliver thousands of new homes for East Manchester.
THE SCARBOROUGH Group, the global property developer behind Milliners Wharf and plans for 2000 new apartments on the £575m 23 acre Middlewood Locks development in Salford, are behind the new scheme.
The McCabe family's Scarborough Group - which also holds a 50% stake in Sheffield United FC - has called the second phase the 'Hat Box' scheme.
The new £30 development in Ancoats' New Islington will provide 144 one, two, duplex and three-bedroom apartments across two contemporary new buildings adjacent to Milliners Wharf.
Completion of the first apartments is expected to be early-2016.
The 'Hat Box' is being developed by FairBriar International - a joint venture between Scarborough, Hong Kong developer Top Spring International and Singapore-listed developer Metro Holdings.
A spokesperson for Scarborough said:
"The apartments will be light, airy, spacious, completed to a high specification and most will have a balcony or private terrace.
"The 'Hat Box' will have excellent facilities, including a sky garden, secure parking and bicycle stores, and is ideally located close to the Metrolink and within walking distance of the centre of Manchester."
The new scheme for New Islington follows news earlier in the year of a newly established partnership between Manchester City Council and Abu Dhabi United Group - owners of Manchester City FC.
The partnership, called Manchester Life, promises to deliver thousands of new homes in East Manchester in a £1bn ten year investment.
