THE grace and charm of the 1950s French Riviera is the inspiration behind a new pop-up bar for Spinningfields, The Yacht Club.

The bar aims to capture the charm and allure of the Côte d'Azur in its heyday, where every night was a party night. It will be situated in the city-centre sun trap of Hardman Square, and will be here for the duration of the summer.

The Yacht Club's name and hedonistic spirit gives a nod to The Hacienda, which was formerly a yacht showroom.

The organisers promise a distinguished drinking den which will stage events including vintage fashion shows and classic car shows. It will also support this year’s Screenfields calendar of Thursday night outdoor films.

The Yacht Club's opening night coincides with the first Screenfields film of the summer – Good Will Hunting which will be shown at 8pm on Thursday 19 April.

Alongside the usual beers, wines and ciders, the Yacht Club will specialise in offering classic cocktails such as The Bardot, The Monte Carlo Mint Julep, and The Boardwalk Bramble. This fruity combination features Bombay Sapphire gin, lemon juice, a little sugar, and a drizzle of crème de mure liqueur.

The Yacht Club's name and hedonistic spirit gives a nod to The Hacienda, which was formerly a yacht showroom. It'll be a chic, outdoor bar complete with leather day beds and wooden decking. We predict many lazy afternoons quaffing champagne and absorbing the sunny Manchester rays.

Chris Legh, director at Heart Soul Rock & Roll, the company behind The Yacht Club, said: “Spinningfields already has a multitude of great bars and restaurants in one of the best outside spaces in the city. With the addition of The Yacht Club, it’s definitely going to be the place to be this summer.

“We're going to have lots of exciting activities alongside Screenfields, the Olympics and all the other great events down there, so keep an eye out for our extensive events programme – it’s going to be quite different.”
