MANCHESTER finally has an Oliver Bonas store.

There’s quality to be found here at reasonable price points

Somewhat unusually located in Manchester Piccadilly train station, the new store opened to the public last weekend becoming the 58th addition to the brand’s family. Yet it’s the first Oliver Bonas for Manchester, and is proving a welcome shopping revelation for local fashion-lovers. This hip fashion, homeware and gift brand already has a well-established following with thousands of social media followers.

Inside, prepare to be seduced by miscellaneous well-curated pieces. You'll find simple yet effective womenswear and jewellery, in various shapes and cuts - all designed in-house by the Oliver Bonas design team with a cool simplicity. There’s also a large collection of interior pieces, including Instagrammable golden pineapple wall features, prettied ceramic bowls and cute trinkets for storing jewellery. You'll find quite a few good gifting trinkets; cookbooks, beauty products, candles, accessories. It’s undoubtedly a one-stop kind of shop.

For those new to ‘OB’ (as its fans call it) here's a bit of history: a young Oliver Tress launched the store back in 1993 fresh out of university, today he still mans the Oliver Bonas ship with a small team of in-house designers. We’re told the majority of the wares to be found in store, including the packaging, are designed by the OB design team right through from concept to finished article.

“With its heritage as the centre of textile trade and rich variety of architecture, Manchester is a British design capital and a natural home for an Oliver Bonas,” declares the store.

Impressively, there’s quality to be found here at reasonable price points. While the majority of the clothing is simple and unfussy, you can see and feel a quality difference from the hordes of fast fashion businesses available. Coats and jackets can range around £45- £125, while knitwear averages around £50. Spotted in the Manchester store, a ‘Tami Tan Suedette Mac’, belted at the waist with a dipped neckline, comes in at £125. Also, for a quick and easy buy, check out the candle selection – we’ve tried their pepper and gingerwood scented candle (£20) and it's gorgeous.

Oliver Bonas joins fashion store & Other Stories - yet another brand once reserved for London and neighbouring cities only - as the latest store to open their first Manchester branch this year. Could the openings suggest a turning tide for other locally based bricks and mortar fashion businesses? It's possible.
