Its basement, meanwhile, has lain sadly dormant for over two decades: but now all that’s set to change, with a 550m state-of-the-art indoor race track. The development comes courtesy of Team Sport - the UK’s leading go-karting company - and includes fifteen hairpain bends, rapid ramps and full throttle straights. A fleet of fumeless electric karts, meanwhile, promise adrenaline junkies speeds up to 40mph.
With the nearest go-karting venue 3.5 miles away in Trafford, it’s a first for the city centre, and is expected to create up to 38 full-time and part-time jobs. Other facilities will include corporate meeting rooms, private party rooms and Fuel; a fully-licensed bar serving ‘rustic pizzas’ and refreshing post-race beverages.
Dominic Gaynor, Managing Director of Team Sport Karting, said: “Manchester is one of the most vibrant cities in the UK, so we are thrilled to launch our nineteenth track in the heart of it. We are looking forward to residents and visitors of the city, as well as local businesses, trying out our offering for themselves and experiencing the thrill of our two level track.
“Whether it's a stag or hen party, a family day out or a corporate away day, Team Sport caters for all needs and is the perfect choice for getting adrenaline pumping and hearts racing.
“With a range of affordable packages in a convenient and accessible location, we really do have something for everyone looking for the ultimate indoor go-karting experience - you never know, the next F1 Superstar could be from Manchester!”
