Some do make for depressing reading but it's worth remembering that Greater Manchester has a population of 2.6m and that recent figures show crime rates have fallen across both the region and the country.
Sunday 13 July: Woman arrested after death in Offerton
Police have launched an investigation after a 68-year-old man was found dead at a house in Offerton.
Officers were called to the house on Hexham Close shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday 12 July 2014 following a report of a sudden death.
On arrival, officers found the body of a 68-year-old man. A post mortem to establish the cause of death is due to take place.
A 45-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the death and following interview has been released on police bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Downey said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation and at present are trying to establish the facts around this man's death. I would say there is no imminent threat to the local community.

Friday 11 July: Woman found in resevoir remains critical
A woman remains in a critical condition after she was found in a reservoir in north Manchester on Thursday 10 July 2014.
Police were called around midday following reports that a woman’s body had been found in Debdale Reservoir.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, is fighting for her life in hospital.
She is described as being aged somewhere in her 40s or 50s, around 5ft 5in tall and heavy set. She has long dark hair below her shoulders which is possibly dyed and has an olive or tanned complexion.
She was found wearing a red pyjama top with a dog on the front and the words ‘dotty for you’ and Disney pyjama bottoms with white and black Dalmatians on. She was also wearing blank sandals with a polka dot buckle.
Detective Inspector Neil Jones said: “From the information we have received, we believe she had been spotted at the bus stop outside Tesco on Hyde Road at around 11.30am. From there, we think she has walked to the reservoir before police have been called.
“Unfortunately, despite the detailed description of her, no one has come forward to say they know who she is. We are obviously keen to identify this woman as soon as possible so we can inform her family and friends she is very ill.
“If you know who she is or believe you may have seen her either at the bus stop or walking to Debdale, please call us.”

Wednesday 9 July: Missing girls could be in Syria
Officers from the North West Counter Terrorism Unit now believe two young girls recently reported missing from their Manchester home could be in Syria.
Detective Chief Superintendent Tony Mole, Head of the NWCTU, said: "First, I want to stress that the welfare of these two teenagers is our overarching priority.
"Two 16-year-old girls left the UK on 26 June 2014 and we believe that they have since entered Syria.
"At this stage we don't know for sure why they are there or exactly who they are with.
"This is why the National Prevent Programme is key. Our Prevent officers work in the community - out there in the real world, dealing with real lives - to help those at risk of being radicalised or influenced into travelling to a volatile and dangerous region."

Monday 7 July: Man convicted after punching girlfriend to death in city centre
Ryan Ingham, 27, of Southdown Crescent, Blackley has been found guilty of murder and jailed for life (with a minimum term of 16 years) after a city centre argument between Ingham and girlfriend, Caroline Finigan, turned violent at Shudehill on Wednesday 15 January 2014.
Ingham and his girlfriend Caroline Finigan had been drinking on a night in Manchester city centre, at around 1.10am an argument started and witnesses saw Ingham run up and punch his girlfriend, sending her crashing to the floor and knocking her unconscious.
She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died later that evening on Thursday 16 January 2014.
Ingham was arrested and charged with her murder.

Senior Investigating Officer Duncan Thorpe from the Major Incident Team said: “Ingham and Ms Finigan had been together for a couple of years and had regular arguments. However, this does not excuse what he did and only he knows what made him attack her in such a way.
“Ms Finigan’s family have been left deeply upset and cannot believe someone who claimed to love her could kill her.
“Ingham himself will have to live with the fact his reckless and thoughtless action took the life of an innocent woman."
