Friday 10 January: Body found in canal
At around 6.10am on Friday 10 January police found a body in the canal by Store Street and Great Ancoats Street.
Officers attended and found the body of a man, believed to be in his 30s.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
Thursday 9 January: Appalling assault on disabled man
UPDATE: Police have made arrests.
Police have released CCTV images after a disabled man was abused and attacked by a group of youths in the street by Daw Bank station, Stockport.
Victim's injuriesThe 66-year-old was travelling on the 300 bus at around 5.30pm on 9 November when a group of youths started throwing cigarette packets and taunting the man about his disability.
The group followed the victim off the bus and assaulted him by Daw Bank station. The man had to be taken to hospital for injuries to his head, face and body.
Detective Constable Drew McArdle, said: “This was a disgusting assault on a man who was alone and vulnerable.
“It is clear from looking at him that he has a disability and that makes this crime all the more spiteful. The offenders clearly took enjoyment out of tormenting him as they were laughing while physically and verbally abusing him on the bus.
“Despite ongoing efforts we have not been able to identify the four people whose images we have recovered from the bus and I am now appealing for the public to help me establish who they are."

Wednesday 8 January: Gloucestershire men stand trial for Warehouse Project drug death
Four men from Stroud, Gloucestershire have appeared at Trafford Magistrates' Court in connection with the death of Nick Bonnie, 30, who died on Saturday 28 2013 following consuming a 'bad batch' of drugs. No pleas were entered.
Nick BonnieJames Churchill, aged 30, of Selsey West, Stroud, has been charged with perverting the course of justice and six counts of supplying a Class A drug.
Paul Tabb, aged 30, of Stanley View, Stroud, has been charged with perverting the course of justice and two counts of possession of Class A drugs.
Dean Neale, aged 29, of Mosley Crescent, Stroud, has been charged with perverting the course of justice and two counts of possession of Class A drugs.
Simon Lloyd-Jones, aged 29, of Foxmoor Lane, Stroud, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.
The men shall appear in Manchester Crown Court on January 28.
Monday 6 January: Anti-Frackers fire flare at police helicopter
Police are executing a warrant at the anti-fracking protestor campsite on Barton Moss Road, Eccles, following an incident in which a police helicopter was nearly hit by a flare at around midday on Saturday 4 January.
The flare had been fired from a flare gun nearby the protest camp and directly into the path of the helicopter as it came in to land at Barton airfield.
Chief Superintendent Mark Roberts said: "This is was an unbelievably stupid act of criminality which was extremely dangerous, not only for the police helicopter, but all other aircraft that use the nearby Barton airfields and the wider public.
"Had this flare caused an emergency situation it would not only have been catastrophic for the aircraft and its crew but potentially for numerous homes near the airfield, the M62 motorway and a children's residential facility.
"An attack on the police of this nature has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not exploratory drilling is right or wrong. Whilst I recognise the genuine concerns of many of the protesters in relation to exploratory drilling, it is obvious that there is also an element of regular protesters from outside the Greater Manchester area who seem more interested in seeking confrontation with the police."

Monday 6 January: Boy found by the side of the road dies in hospital
At around 2am on Monday 6 January police were called to junction 21 of the M60 Chadderton after reports that there was someone lying on the slip road.
Police attended and found a seriously injured 16-year-old boy. He sadly died in hospital.
It is understood that the boy had fallen from a bridge at the junction.
The motorway was closed for around two and a half hours this morning as police made enquiries.
At this time there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
