Some do make for depressing reading but it's worth remembering that Greater Manchester has a population of 2.6m and that recent figures show crime rates have fallen across both the region and the country.
Sunday 25 May: Body of missing woman found
Police are no longer searching for a woman missing from Salford.
Kerry Bailey, 36, was last seen at her Worsley home on Wednesday.
There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Detective Inspector Alan Clitherow, said: "We have spent several days making every effort to find Kerry safe and well, sadly a body has been found today and although we await formal identification we do believe it is her."
Thursday 22 May: Noonan in bother again
Domenyk James Lattlay-Fottfoy (Noonan), 49, of Coke Street, Salford has been charged with engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
He is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today, Thursday 22 May 2014.
A 49 year old man arrested on suspicion of rape as part of the same inquiry has been bailed until 24 June 2014 pending further enquiries.
Noonas has made the headlines in recent weeks.
On Tuesday 6 May, Noonan clambered up Manchester's Big Wheel in Piccadilly Gardens in a reported protest at a recall to prison.
He stayed up there for six and a half hours (see below).

Tuesday 20 May: Thief tricked elderly man into buying non-existent plants
A thief in Leigh tricked an elderly man into buying plants which did not exist.
At around 2.10pm on Thursday 15 May, the thief approached a house on Maple Crescent and knocked on the door.
When the 84-year-old man answered the thief offered to sell the victim £80 worth of plants, when the victim handed the cash over the thief said he'd go to his van to collect the plants, but never returned.
He was last seen walking in the direction of Bright Street.
He is described as white, in his late 50s, 5ft 6in tall, of stocky build and had a short back and side haircut.
He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a red coat with a badge on the left hand side.

The thief never returned with the plants
Monday 19 May: Pensioner attacked while tending to mother's grave
Michael O'Connor, 68, was attacked from behind at around 12.30pm on Saturday 17 May as he tended to his mother's grave on the anniversary of her death at Gorton cemetery.
The offender grabbed the victim from behind, pushed him to the floor and swiped the man's wallet from his back pocket. During the struggle the offender punched the victim in the face several times.
He escaped through a hole in the fence that leads to a cycle path adjacent to the cemetery.
The offender is described as white, of stocky build and aged between 35 and 40. He was about 5ft 8in tall and had short brown hair and a scruffy appearance. He was wearing blue stonewash jeans and a navy jumper.
Detective Constable Michael O'Connor, said: "To attack a man at a graveside is an appalling act of cowardice and the actions of the person responsible smack of absolute desperation."

Monday 19 May: Noonan charged after climbing Big Wheel
Domenyk James Lattlay-Fottfoy Noonan, 49, of Milton Road in Stretford has been charged with public nuisance and will appear before Magistrates on 5 June 2014.
He was charged on Saturday 17 May 2014 with bail conditions that he is not to enter Piccadilly Gardens.
At around 3.30pm on Tuesday 6 May, Noonan clambered up Manchester's Big Wheel in Piccadilly Gardens in a reported protest at a recall to prison.
He stayed up there for six and a half hours.
Noonan was jailed in 2005 for firearms offences. In the same year Noonan's brother, Desmond Noonan, who had bragged on a TV documentary about his part in numerous murders, was stabbed to death in South Manchester and dumped in Chorlton.
