Some do make for depressing reading but it's worth remembering that Greater Manchester has a population of 2.6m and that recent figures show crime rates have fallen across both the region and the country.
Saturday 21 June: Arrest made following Parklife murder
Following the offer of a 20k reward from Parklife organisers (below), police investigating the death of Robert Hart have made an arrest on Saturday 21 June.
A 31-year-old man was arrested in Cheshire this morning on suspicion of Robert's murder. He remains in custody for questioning.
Robert, 26, died after being subjected to an assault at the Parklife Weekender Festival on Saturday 7 June 2014.
Detective Inspector Richard Eales said: "Over the last two weeks, we have received a huge amount support by both the public and the media for the appeal to help find the person responsible.
"We now have a man in custody but that doesn't mean the investigation is at an end. We are continuing to investigate and we are renewing our appeal for information or any relevant footage."

Robert Hart died following an assault at Parklife
Thursday 19 June: Motorcyclist killed in New Moston
A motorcyclist has died following a collision in New Moston on the evening of Thursday 19 June 2014.
Shortly before 7pm, police were called to St Mary's Road following a report that a silver Kawasaki had collided with a stationary vehicle.
Traffic officers attended and found the machine and the rider had hit the vehicle and come to a rest in a nearby garden. The 32-year-old motorcyclist had suffered unsurvivable injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers now want to hear from anyone who may have seen the motorbike on St Mary's Road prior to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4745.
Wednesday 18 June: 20k reward to find Parklife killer
A reward of £20,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man responsible for the death of Robert Hart.
Robert, 26, died last Wednesday afternoon after being subjected to an assault by an unknown man at the Parklife Weekender Festival on Saturday 7 June 2014.
Now Parklife organisers have offered a £20,000 reward for anyone who is able to provide significant information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the man responsible.
The offender is described as a mixed race male, aged in his late 20's and around 6ft 1 tall. He has a muscular build and short, dark hair which was shaved at the sides. He was also wearing shorts and a blue, bomber-style jacket with the letter 'A' in white on the front.
Parklife E-Fit Police have also issued this efit.
Detective Inspector Richard Eales said: “Over the past week, we have been carrying out a thorough and significant police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and subsequent death of Robert Hart.
“While we have been pursuing a number of lines of inquiry, we believe that there are still people out there who have information that can help us identify this man.
“Parklife organisers have already been assisting us thoroughly with this operation, and now they have kindly offered this significant amount of money in a further bid to catch the man responsible for Robert’s tragic death.
“It is very unlikely that this man went to a festival on his own.
“Someone out there was with this man when the attack happened, or knows something that will help us identify him.
“Please do not shield this man with your silence, he does not deserve the protection you are offering him at the moment.
"This reward is only for information in relation to the attack of Robert Hart. At this moment in time there is no link between the assault of Robert and the pictures being circulated on social media which show a man being kicked in the head.
"They are unrelated incidents and we are concentrating solely on the attack of Robert, which occurred in front of the main stage at around 9.15pm on the Saturday evening."
Parklife Festival
Parklife organisers added: “Tomorrow marks a week since the sad passing of Robert Hart and our thoughts continue to be with his family, who have been going through unthinkable pain since then.
“From the start we believed that, out of the 70,000 people at the festival, there must have been one person who knows who was responsible for this cowardly act.
“After careful consultation with GMP, who have in turn been supporting the family, we are now able to offer £20,000 for information which leads the authorities to identifying the attacker and convicting him for the crime.
“The response from the public in support of the family has been overwhelming so far. Please, if you have any information that can help, please call Police on the numbers below.
“We will not stop until the offender is caught. RIP Robert Hart.

Tuesday 17 June: Fatal van fire
Shortly after 6.10pm on Tuesday 17 June 2014, police were called to the slip-road at junction 1 of the M60 near Stockport.
Emergency services attended and found a van alight and a man trapped inside. The man was taken out of the vehicle but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
There are not believed to be any other vehicles involved or any reports of any other injuries.
Monday 16 June: Hyde sexual assault
A man tried to sexually assault a teenager in Hyde.
The 16-year-old was walking along Mill Lane, Haughton Green on the morning of Sunday 15 June 2014 when she was approached by a man who seriously assaulted her.
The man is described as being white, in his late 20s, around 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, had fair hair, wore a light blue shiny tracksuit with a hood and spoke with a local accent.
Detective Inspector Julie Maxwell said: “The victim had been staying over at a friend’s house but as it was a light morning, she decided to go home early. As she was passing the Haughton Green Nature Reserve, she was approached by the male and assaulted.
“I would urge the community to be vigilant, considering personal safety and keep an eye out for a man who fits this description. If you have seen him or witnessed the attack itself, please phone police.”
