The stadium-fillers will play the Bowl as part of Manchester International Festival on Thursday 6 July

MANCHESTER International Festival (MIF) has just announced its fifth major commission for 2017, as American-Canadian stadium-fillers Arcade Fire bring their spectacular live show to Castlefield Bowl on Thursday 6 July.

What is the City but the People?, a fashion show in Piccadilly Gardens based on an idea by artist Jeremy Deller; What if Women Ruled the World?, an improvised theatre performance inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove and created by Israeli artist Yael Bartana; Fatherland, a play from Simon Stephens and Scott Graham with a score by Underworld’s Karl Hyde; and 10000 Gestures, a dance work in a ‘found space’ by French choreographer, Boris Charmatz - >span class="s2">read here.

The festival - taking place from 29 June to 16 July – will be the first for new artistic director John McGrath, who replaces MIF’s founding director, Alex Poots.
