MANCHESTER Fashion Week kicked off this bank holiday Monday with homegrown designer to the stars, Nadine Merabi showcasing her spring/summer 2012 evening wear dresses.

Based at the new Avenue North building in Spinningfields, Manchester Fashion Week is a weeklong initiative of fashion, theatrics and after parties aiming to represent Manchester as a shopping destination on a national scale.

Nadine Merabi at Manchester Fashion Week

The schedule began with Manchester’s very own Nadine Merabi, who brought her spring/summer 2012 collection to the Manchester catwalk. The collection was first showcased at an off-schedule London Fashion Week show earlier this year, marking the Mancunian designer’s first ever London exposure. However, this time Nadine brought it back to her hometown and to her roots.

The collection was eclectic, to say the least. Her dresses ranged from club-wear to cocktail hour, black tie to bootylicious and came in all manner of lengths, shapes and silhouettes. Bling was high on the agenda with glitter-encrusted trims and bead embellishments where the thigh-high figure hugging body-con dress was a favourite staple throughout the show.

Nadine is famed in the city as the dresser to soap stars and regularly dresses the likes of Waterloo Road’s Chelsee Healey and Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley. Where few of Nadine’s celebrity following were in attendance at her Manchester Fashion Week debut, she certainly kicked proceedings off to a fabulous start.
