A PARLIAMENTARY by-election will take place on Thursday 15 November to choose a new MP for the Manchester Central constituency. The current MP, Tony Lloyd, has stepped down to stand as a Police Commissioner role. Voters will also go to the polls on 15 November to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner and in addition voters in the Ardwick ward will have the opportunity to elect a councillor, following the death of former Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Tom O'Callaghan earlier this month. The following council wards are in the Manchester Central constituency: Ancoats and Clayton; Ardwick; Bradford; City Centre; Hulme; Miles Platting and Newton Heath; Moss Side and Moston. Applications to register to vote on 15 November must be received by 31 October, so would-be voters, who are not already on the electoral register, are being urged not to delay if they want to have their say. Applications to vote by post, or to cancel an existing postal vote, must be received by 5pm on 31st October. Residents can download an application form from the Council's website at www.manchester.gov.uk/elections or can ask for a form to be sent to them by post by emailing esu@manchester.gov.uk or by calling 0161 2341212. A list of candidates for the Manchester Central by-election will be published at 5pm on 31 October at www.manchester/elections |
