DELAYS are expected across a number of public transport services and roads around Manchester this coming week with two major sporting events hitting the city.

25,000 people are expected for each day of the third Ashes test at Old Trafford Cricket Ground from Thursday 1 August to Monday 5 August and 15,000 cyclists are expected for Sky’s Ride Manchester on Sunday 4 August.

Metrolink will be running extra double trams to Old Trafford tram station for the period of The Ashes test around the expected start and finish times of 11am and 6.30pm. Passengers are advised that the Trafford Bar and Firswood tram stops are also just a short walk away from the cricket ground.

For the Sky Ride Manchester event, roads will be closed in and around the city centre, with the ride taking place between 10am and 4pm on a traffic free route between Sackville Park (Village) and the National Cycling Centre.

Bus services 53, 76, 77, 78, 216, 217, 218, 219, 231, Transpeak and Metroshuttle services will be affected and divert around the area.
