Almost Famous Burgers To Change Name

At Monday’s Awards at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Gala Dinner, Almost Famous Burgers picked up two awards, the Food Pioneer and Food Hero gongs. Sleuth now hears they may be changing their name. Sleuth understands they will be dropping the ‘Al’ syllable of the name to become ‘Most Famous Burgers’. Apparently they are second only to McDonalds in burger fame now.

Jenny McAlpine Adds Food And Drink Fiz

Also at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards, one of the prizes was dished out by Corrie star Jenny McAlpine. She plays a character Sleuth believes is called Fiz, but since he last watched the soap in the eighties when there were only four channels on TV (imagine that kids) he's not really sure. Anyway McAlpine has been eyeing up an empty restaurant site opposite Sandinista on Old Bank Street, just off St Ann's Square. The 100 cover venue was formerly the awful Bar 5 and before that the even worse Conservatory. It was announced at the awards McAlpine intends to open before Christmas with a modern British menu. Sleuth wishes her luck.

Lynda Moyo Is Caught In The All Together

Our Body Confidential editor Lynda Moyo, Tough Nun, Percussionist and Fast Food Connoisseur, was properly papped this week.

She visited Fashion Cam 360 thanks to Manchester Arndale. While she threw her flamboyant hair back, 32 cameras snapped her from all angles. The result is a 360 degree video image of La Moyo. It's a bit spooky, a bit sci-fi, but sort of mesmerising too. Very Avatar. Very like that virtual world website called Second Life.

The reason for it all is this, according to the blurb: 'Shoppers can add a touch of Hollywood glamour to their party outfit and see themselves full circle from every angle. For the first time in the UK customers will be able to step inside a six foot trussing structure which incorporates 32 computer-controlled Canon cameras which shoot simultaneously creating a freeze-frame effect.'

It's arriving at the Manchester Arndale from 9-11 November and those who try it out will be able to see their own Matrix style video like Lynda's on the Manchester Arndale website.

Roast For Plaudits

Sleuth reckons that if you want a Sunday roast in Parlour on Beech Road in Chorlton in the near future, then perhaps go soon. Apparently the Rochdale Observer (Sleuth thinks it was the Rochdale Observer or maybe another paper with a similar name) might soon be declaring it the best roast in a pub anywhere in the country. Sleuth’s going to try it out as soon as possible.

Sleuth’s Odd Google Moment Of The Week

Sleuth was talking to a visiting journalist recently. He’d looked up the location of the National Football Museum (NFM) and nearly got on a train to deepest Lancashire. Google isn’t always the fastest to react is it? The address below really needs updating. Or maybe there are some bitter hackers in Preston fighting back, angry that NFM moved in the first place.

Sleuth’s Taxi Driver Watching TV Episode Of The Week

So Sleuth called a mini-cab and was tootling along Chorlton Road when he noticed something. A smart phone was attached to a clip under the windscreen mirror. “Are you really watching X Factor while driving?” he asked. The driver nodded and said, “It helps pass the time, do you want me to turn it up so you can listen?” Sleuth wasn’t sure about the legality and the safety of such behaviour, but he was desperate to know how Ella Henderson was getting on.

Sleuth's Least Surprising Comment Of The Week

Sleuth was in Blue Pig on High Street the other day. This is the new bar/eaterie from the Odd group. There were two ladies speaking Italian on the next table. Sleuth wished them 'Buongiorno' and had a chat. Turns out they've been three weeks in Manchester with 15 kids from Naples. While the kids have been studying English, the ladies have been having lunch. They've loved Manchester except...."Where've you been staying?" asked Sleuth. Pause. "The Britannia Hotel," they said. "Oh, I'm dreadfully sorry," said Sleuth. "So are we," they replied emotionally. "That is a very very strange hotel, so glamourous with the stairs and reception, and then you reach the rooms." They then did one of those exasperated gesticulations only the Italians can pull off.

Sleuth’s Gratuitous Use Of That Book Title - Of The Week

This from the city council about an event on Thursday this week. ‘Manchester Libraries and The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF) are heading out on the town to celebrate International Coming Out Day. LGF’s pink closet will be in Manchester city centre giving members of the public the chance to ‘come out’ of it and have their picture taken. Manchester Libraries will be joining LGF on Canal Street to launch ‘Fifty Shades of Gay’ (Hurrah, there it is) a new selection of the best in LGBT writing which highlights the work of librarians’ favourite 50 new and classic authors.’

Tango's Arrives

Sleuth hears that Bacchanalia, the bar restaurant between Grinch and Sam's Chop House on Chapel Walks in the city has changed hands. It's now Tango's. Sleuth's investigating but on facebook is describing it as 'fine dining' - really. Let's hope it's not running before it can walk. Confidential will check it out.

Sleuth's Third Demolition Picture Of The BBC

Sleuth has the demolition urge. He has an apocalyptic desire. The destruction of the BBC on Oxford Road he finds incredibly beguiling. Die, building, die.
