LUFTHANSA enjoyed another record breaking year in Manchester during 2012 with the highest number of passengers carried in the airline’s history. The figure of 746,000 shows an increase of around seven per cent on 2011.

Announcing the record year, Christian Schindler, Lufthansa’s General Manager UK & Ireland, said: “As well as offering quick and easy access to many of the main German cities we continue to ensure our flights to and from Manchester offer the shortest possible onward connection times to our worldwide network through our hubs of Frankfurt and Munich.

“In 2012 the most popular onward destinations for Manchester travellers included Jeddah, Beijing, Johannesburg, Vienna, Moscow, Bucharest, Prague and Budapest.”

Overall more than 103 million passengers flew with airlines in the Lufthansa Group last year. In total, Lufthansa, Germanwings, SWISS and Austrian Airlines carried 2.5 million (2.4 per cent) more passengers in the January to December term than in the previous year.
