One of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions every year is to write a book – most people harbour a secret ambition to be a writer, and we all believe we’ve got a book in us.
This year is the year you can finally do something about your writing ambitions.
Writers from across the north of England have been sending in their applications in the hope of bagging a share of a prize pot of £40,000 as the Northern Writers’ Awards 2013 come close to the submissions deadline on 31 January.
This is the chance for writers living across the whole of the north to prove they have the write stuff by turning their literary career into a success story.
Authors of crime fiction, children’s novelists, short story, poetry or prose writers are all encouraged to apply.
New and established writers alike are being encouraged to apply for the awards, which are now open to wordsmiths from all over the north of England.
Another development is the announcement that two giants of the northern literary scene have agreed to become patrons of the awards – the acclaimed Yorkshire poet Simon Armitage and the Booker Prize-winning novelist Pat Barker, who is based in Durham.
The awards are open to writers of any genre from literary fiction to poetry and writing for children.
