It's the second collaboration between the five-star hotel and micro-distillers
THE Lowry Hotel has announced an exclusive collaboration with local micro-distillers The Salford Rum Company to produce a range of rum cocktails.
The small batch rum – which is only on its second batch of 200 – was previously solely available by private request. This will be the first time it has been sold in a hotel and bar.
The partnership follows the summer cocktail collaboration with Salford-based gin distillery FOUR SIS4ERS, and is a testament to The Lowry Hotel’s aim to use only locally-sourced ingredients.
The rum is inspired by the spices imported into Salford's historical docks – a major import hub in the eighteenth and nineteenth century. As a trading centre for cotton from the Manchester mills, the docks were teeming with new spices and produce, including rum from the Caribbean.
The Salford rum is sold in eye-catching ceramic bottles, with a label designed by local artist Dave Draws. Inside it you'll find an expertly blended golden rum spiced with vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and dried fruits.
The Salford Rum Company was started by two friends, James Harrison and Tommy Gaughan, who wanted to create a small batch, column-distilled rum that they themselves would want to drink.

Said James, “It's been an exciting journey getting to this point and we couldn't be happier than to officially mark the launch of our rum with the support of such a prestigious brand as the Lowry Hotel.
“The response of Salfordians and Mancunians alike has been overwhelmingly positive for both the look and taste of Salford Rum and we are really looking forward to tasting the cocktails that the Lowry's experts have created.”
General manager of The Lowry Hotel, Adrian Ellis, said, “The Lowry Hotel prides itself as a hotel which supports the local community, and the fact that we can champion these native entrepreneurs is really fantastic."
The cocktails will be available to buy in The River Bar at The Lowry Hotel from 1 October. Starting from £15, the collection will feature the hotel's twist on traditional favourites, ranging from a Rum Punch to a Golden Piña Colada.
