THE Infusion development in Moss Side, one of my favourite schemes of recent years, is up for two awards and if you vote for it you could win an iPad.
It has been nominated as Best Community Integration Project and Most Innovative Redevelopment in the First Time Buyer Magazine readers’ Awards.
Quite rightly so as Infusion shows what can be done with basic terraced stock, a bit of imagination and a lot of funding. It has cost £17m to renovate 151 Victorian properties across four streets to impressive standard but it meant that people who had bought there were not forced out, communities not broken up and the historic housing legacy secured.
The 64 properties that were owned b y the council have been converted into two, three and four bedroom homes and there are seven, four bed new builds marking the end of the traditional rows.
It is a joint project between the City Council, Miller Homes and GB Building Solutions with the design work done by MBLA and has been so successful that only five of the 71 properties available remain for sale.
In the Best Community Integration, the scheme is up against Barratt Homes and another Miller Homes development – Doune Riggs in Stirling, Scotland. And in the category of Most Innovative Redevelopment of an Existing Property, it is up against Circle Living and Southern Housing Group.
Voting closes on 28 March and anyone taking part is in with the chance to win an iPad courtesy of the First Time Buyer magazine. Understandably Miller Homes North West is urging residents and its community partners to vote for Infusion by visiting here.
I already have.
