A DOG walker near Rochdale made a grisly discovery on Sunday - a human leg.

"Police are now searching the area to see if there are any further body parts and inquiries are ongoing to try to establish to whom the leg belongs."

The discovery was made on the afternoon of Sunday 21 September 2014 on land behind the Healey Conservative Club.

So far police have confirmed that the leg is that of an adult, but they're unsure as yet if the leg belonged to a man or a woman.

An investigation has been launched and police are now carrying out searches to see if there are more body parts to be found around the area.

Lancashire Police released this short statement:

"Police were called at shortly before 2.45pm today to a report that a member of the public had found a human leg on land behind Healey Conservative Club at Whitworth.

Police are now searching the area to see if there are any further body parts and inquiries are ongoing to try to establish to whom the leg belongs."
