HARRY and Olivia are the most popular baby names in the North West, according to the latest stats from the Office for National Statistics.
Taken from the final annual births registration data of all 723,913 live births in England and Wales in 2011, the report features just over 28,000 different boys’ names and 35,000 different girls’ names registered.
In England, Harry was found to be the overall most popular name for boys and Amelia was the favourite for girls. These names replace Oliver and Olivia at the top spot from the previous year. However, regional statistics varied, with Olivia taking the top spot for the second year running among baby girls in the North West.
Celebrities are well known for opting for very unusual names for their offspring, with Beyonce and Jay-Z’s baby Blue Ivy predicted to become one of the top baby names of choice for 2012 according to Nameberry.com. However for last year’s results, the choices remain fairly tame with names such as Jack and Alfie for boys and Amelia and Ava for girls high on the list in the North West.
