NORTHERN Quarter’s stalwart late night booze cave, Black Dog NQ, toasted the opening of its brand new live music and dance space - dubbed ‘The Bunker’ - last week with a barnstorming set from legendary hip hop DJ Grandmaster Flash.
We felt it was about time we gave the place a new dimension
Punters packed into the impressive basement bar extension - which has almost doubled the size of the venue beneath Affleck’s Arcade - to see ‘Flash’ drop classics such as The Message and White Lines.
The new space will play host to weekly DJ sets, gigs and comedy nights including Bare Bones Acoustic Mondays and Ping Pong Disco – an ‘energetic evening of beats and balls’ in association with Beat Boutique.
Meanwhile, following the the success of the Northern Quarter bar’s Fizz Face Fridays with BBC Manchester and Radio X DJ Clint Boon, the Black Dog team have decided to invite Booney's wife over to The Bunker to host a Saturday afternoon 'tea party takeover'. Full list of events here.
Black Dog co-owner Ross Mackenzie said: “It’s been over six years since we opened Black Dog Ballroom and since then the Northern Quarter has undergone some major changes.
“We felt it was about time we gave the place a new dimension; we’re giving The Bunker a large dance floor and cool club vibe, allowing our guests to carry on the party into the early hours.”
