Fireworks, funfairs and free family fun
Halloween’s made its appearance, Christmas markets are being installed (much to the delight of Gordo) and we’re already getting press releases about New Year’s Eve…yes it really is that time again.
Before the Yuletide mania takes hold, however, it’s time to remember the fifth of November - aka the day Guy Fawkes was foiled trying to blow up Parliament. Legend has it that Fawkes and his fellow schemers drew up their fateful plan in none other than Salford’s Ordsall Hall, hence why its adjacent street is named ‘Guy Fawkes Street.’
As ever, Manchester is putting on some dazzling firework displays at parks across the city. Especially at the three biggies - Heaton, Wythenshawe and Platt Fields - attendees are advised to leave their bags at home, arrive at least an hour before the fireworks to avoid disappointment and travel on public transport where possible as parking is limited.
Searches will be in place (no trying to sneak in fireworks, sparklers or booze) and canine pals, unless used for assistance, aren’t allowed…although we doubt they’d fancy it anyway. As for the rest of the fam? Bring them along…
Executive Member for Skills, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Luthfur Rahman, said: "These free events are always incredibly popular with local families, so please make sure you arrive early for your local celebration. Wrap up warm, bring a torch and most importantly, enjoy the show."
