BLACK White Denim boutique is stocking an array of Strange Beautiful nail polishes, all of which are… pretty strange. Though the colours are perfectly normal, it’s the names that catch the eye, and potentially stimulate the gag reflex.
One in particular that evokes a concerned double-take is ‘Menstrual Last Day’.Ironically, it’s a really nice colour, but we’d rather not have anything menstrual related amid our foundation and mascara, I’m sure. Luckily Black White Denim is stocking the slightly tamer named varnishes.
Designer Jane Schub said: “I find it thought provoking and stimulating to remember and refer to each colour by its reference or inspiration.” While this might mean some artistic and creative names such as ‘the dark inky blue of a never ending deep lake at night and the fear of swimming in it’, it also means names like ‘Gradations of a Bruise’ and ‘Worn Black Bible’.
Apart from sounding like a couple of dark heavy metal bands, these names are slightly easier to handle than the previous menstrual referencing. But could we wear them in the name of fashion?
Well if the colours are nice, I don’t see why not. It seems the names have definitely caught our attention at least. Perhaps we could just do with a little less detail, in some cases.
