ADELE debuted this look at the 2012 Grammy Awards, opting for glitter encrusted nail beds with an unexpected deep red, shiny coat painted on the underside of each nail. Adele was in fact wearing Christian Louboutin shoes and the nail art was a cheeky nod to the £375 red soled Fifi Glitter pumps hiding beneath her sparkly Giorgio Armani gown.
The fashion blogosphere has gone mad for this affordable Louboutin talon tribute, with ‘how- to’ YouTube posts such as this one from Picturesque Makeup showing you exactly how to create this A-list look at home.
The craze coincides with Louboutin’s latest venture into cosmetics. Back in May, the designer announced his future plans to collaborate with Batallure Beauty to create a range of cosmetics, potentially including nail polish. Louboutin famously credits his red soled shoe design to red nail polish which he used to paint the soles of his first designs.
He said recently: "The beauty adventure is the natural extension for someone like me, who likes to empower women".
If his shoes are anything to go by, the Louboutin cosmetics line will be high-end with a high price tag to match, potentially making this look very fashionable but freakishly expensive for most. But while Louboutin is as famous for filing lawsuits against those who dare to use red paint on the sole of a shoe as he is for the coveted design itself, we doubt he’ll be filing any red nails lawsuits anytime soon. So go ahead and paint the town red with the Louboutin look.
