DRAGONS on the streets. About time too.

Teams of four runners will be running inside the 'Dragon Boats', which have been designed by artist Lydia Meiying.

On June 24 Chinatown is coming alive for the Dragon Boat Festival aka the Double Fifth Festival.

This will involve a full day of fun and festivities including food stalls, fun fairs, competitions, entertainment as well as dragon boat races.

Dragon boat races are as old as the Olympics and part of traditional Chinese culture. The difference this time is that the race will be run on dry land as the Manchester races are brought to Chinatown for the first time.

Teams of four runners will be running inside the 'Dragon Boats', which have been designed by artist Lydia Meiying.

The race will start and finish beneath the famous imperial Chinese Arch, where teams from organisations such as Greater Manchester Police, the Yang Sing, and CityCo will be competing to take home the trophy.

The event is being organised by Manchester Chinatown Community Group (MCTCG). They are working in partnership with numerous third sector, corporate and council partners.

2012 Manchester China Town Dragon Boat Festival takes place on Sunday 24 June this year between 10am and 6pm. Contact Bonnie Yeung (YangSing Restaurant) on 0161 236 2200 if you want to take part.
