Friday 1 November: CCTV of revenge city centre hit-and-run driver jailed for 20 years
Aqab Hussain, 21, has been sentenced to 20 years for a revenge hit-and-run collision that targeted a group of four men, three were injured, one seriously.
After an altercation took place outside Silks gentleman's club on Lloyd Street, in which Hussain's cap was taken but returned, Hussain decided to administer revenge on the men.
In all my years of policing, I have not seen anything as shocking as this and I find it amazing that Michael and his friends are still alive.
Lying in wait in his Vauxhall Corsa on John Dalton Street, Hussain ploughed into the group as they crossed the road on the corner of Albert Square at around 2.30am on Tuesday 21 August.
Father of three, Michael Ward was in intensive care for 20 days and spent four months in a high-dependency unit. His injuries are described as 'life changing'.
Paul Hulme, 30, suffered multiple leg fractures after being carried down the road on the bonnet while Martin Harris, 32, suffered severe bruising. A fourth man, Thomas Mallanphy, managed to dodge the car.
Hussain left the country for nearly two months after the incident. He was arrested on his return.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Peach, said: "This incident started after a minor disagreement between the two groups of men. The CCTV footage demonstrates that Hussain thought he would finish the argument by purposefully using a car as a weapon and deliberately driving into Michael and his friends.
"The CCTV footage gives an example of how fast he was driving the car and the impact it had with Mr Ward. In all my years of policing, I have not seen anything as shocking as this and I find it amazing that Michael and his friends are still alive."
Thursday 31 October: Man stabbed to death in Longsight
Shortly before 1am on Thursday 31 October, police were called to Parry Road in Longsight following reports that a man had been stabbed following an altercation.
The man was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.
Another 23-year-old man also suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital. His wounds are not said to be life-threatening.
A police cordon has been established in the area on Parry Road, Rushford Street and Prout Street.
Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick said: "This investigation is only a few hours old so we are very much in the early stages of establishing exactly what has happened and the events leading up to this man's death.
"We have not yet identified who this man is so the main focus of our inquiries are to establish who he is, make contact with any family members and build up an accurate picture of what has led to his death.
"What we do know is that some sort of altercation took place that has resulted in two men being stabbed, one of whom has now died.
"I understand this will cause shock and distress in the community so I want to assure people that we will have a large police presence in the area in the coming days and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to an officer.
"Secondly, if you have information about this incident then please come forward and tell us, in confidence if needed, so that we can build up an accurate picture of exactly what has happened and find those responsible."

Wednesday 30 October: Stroke survivor devastated after three baby rabbits stamped to death in Wigan
A disabled man from Wigan has been wracked by grief after three baby rabbits living on his allotment plot were stamped to death during a shockingly horrific act of cruelty.
The man, who recently suffered a stroke, had been tending to his plot behind Warrington Road and Poolstock Lane on Sunday 27 October, but when he returned on Monday morning he found the rabbit hutch trashed.
The three baby rabbits, born only two weeks ago, had been stamped to death. The adult rabbits he keeps had managed to survive the attack.
This isn't the only time the disabled man has been targeted, sometime between Friday 18 October and Friday 25 October the man's shed had also been set on fire.
Officers are investigating both incidents.
A horrific act of cruelty
Police Constable Wendy Potter said: "We will do all we can to find out who carried out the savage act of killing these baby rabbits, but we would also want to ask why.
"The man is devastated by these events, which I have no doubt will sicken members of our community. He has recently suffered a stroke and tending to his rabbits and plot is his main pastime.
"These two incidents have left this man feeling even more vulnerable and he is starting to wonder whether he is being targeted for some reason.
"He cannot understand why this is happening to him, and we have been both trying to support him and make him feel safe, as well as getting to the bottom of what has happened."

Tuesday 29 October: Three arrested a decade after 5-year-old-boy knocked down and killed by car
Following a public appeal earlier this year on the tenth anniversary of the death of Sam Walker, police have now made three arrests.
On Sunday 9 February 2003, 5-year-old Sam Walker was crossing Hardy Lane, Chorlton, with his mum, sister and cousin when a silver Mitsubishi Gallant came towards them, narrowly missing the others but fatally hitting Sam.
The car, which had been stolen from a Fallowfield address but an hour earlier, did not stop after the collision.
Sam WalkerA 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and perjury and a 56-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of perjury.
All three remain in police custody for questioning.
Sergeant Lee Westhead from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “I have always maintained that the answers to the circumstances surrounding Samuel's death lay within the community and I would like to thank the witnesses that have come forward so far."

Monday 28 October: CCTV of two racing motorists sentenced for seriously injuring man and boy
Two motorists, Mohammed Usman Patel, 20, of Leech Street, Bolton and Furqaan Mohmed, 21, of Gibbon Street, Bolton, have both been sentenced after seriously injuring a 51-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy.
At around 11.30pm on Sunday 21 July, Patel and Mohmed, who were both driving Vauxhall Astras, were recklessly racing along St Helen's Road towards Bolton town centre on the wrong side of the road at over 60mph when they ploughed into a BMW turning on to the road.
Patel's car span off the road, hitting the young victim before crashing into a bus shelter where the man was sitting.
The 12-year-old boy suffered bleeding and swelling to the brain and multiple breaks to his leg, while the 51-year-old man suffered a fractured arm, broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Patel received three years and ten months in a young offenders institute while Mohmed was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. Both men have been disqualified from driving for four years.
Sergeant Danny Byrne, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “To say that it is fortunate nobody was killed as a result of this collision and more importantly Mohmed and Patel’s appalling driving is a complete understatement.
“The manner of their reprehensible driving was a tragedy waiting to happen: they were using the roads of Bolton as a racing track, showing nothing but contempt for other road users and members of the public."

Sunday 27 October: Children see their mother battered by gang of women
A 23-year-old woman has been viciously attacked by a gang of four women as she walked with her two children in Rochdale.
At around 6pm on Friday 25 October, the victim and her children, aged five and three, were making their way along a footpath between Silver Street and Spotland Road when she was shoved to the ground from behind.
The cowardly group of women then punched and kicked the mother in the face and body causing fractures of her eye and cheekbone along with other inuries to the body and face.
The gang only retreated when one of the victim's children shouted for the attackers to leave their mum alone.
The women are described as being 5ft 6in tall and of skinny build. One of them wore a shiny black waist length jacket with fur around the hood and Ugg style boots. Another wore a jacket with the hood up.

Detective Constable Russ Clarke based at Rochdale Police Station said: “Not only did this victim sustain fractures to her eye, cheekbone & other facial & body injuries, but her young children had to watch the violent and unprovoked attack take place. As you can imagine this has had a profound effect on everyone involved.
"I ask that anyone who knows the identity of the attackers or who has information as to what happened to contact the police as soon as possible so that those responsible can be identified & brought to justice. These women clearly thought nothing of attacking this woman in front of her children, who are now having to deal with the consequences.
"We are still seeking a motive for the attack but at this time this does not appear to be connected to any further incidents.”

Saturday 26 October: 92-year-old woman attacked by robber whilst at home
At around 9.20pm on Saturday 26 October an unknown offender smashed a ground floor window and broke into the property of an elderly woman on Springfield Road, Kearsley.
Careline pendant worn around the neckAs the woman sat in her living room, the man stormed into the room and snatched the victim's Careline pendant (a handy distress alarm for the elderly) from around her neck and shook her until she handed over her purse.
The man, described only as white, wearing dark clothing and a face covering, then fled towards Birch Road.
The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Detective Sergeant Lee Shaw, said: “To break into the home of a 92-year-old woman is bad enough, but to then physically attack this woman - who is clearly vulnerable and has no capacity to defend herself - is reprehensible and the actions of a desperate coward.
“I want anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen something to come forward.
“There is no room for loyalty in crimes as wicked as this and even the criminal fraternity will be appalled that someone can stoop so low.
