WE’VE speculated, suspected and surmised. Now, we can happily confirm that The Curling Lanes are fact, not fiction, and will be open from Monday 16 November to February 2016. The Lanes mark yet another first for the Spinningfields estate and will be located outside The Lawn Club; accompanied by their very own Curling clubhouse complete with cosy rugs and festive refreshments, plus a box office and equipment.

What other game boasts hog lines, hacks and brooms?

Available for exclusive hire, the Lanes are otherwise open to all, whether amateur or pro. Those feeling particularly competitive can even go brush-to-brush in the curling league table. Ticket prices start from £20 for a group of up to four people per fifteen minute curling session, with three sessions available per hour.

For those more Bambi than Bolero, the medieval Scottish sport - which shares similarities with boules and shuffleboard - is a great alternative to New Bailey’s nearby ice rink, with no skates required. Plus, what other Olympic-level game boasts hog lines, hacks and brooms?

Chris Reay, Spinningfields Estates Director, said: “At Spinningfields, we’re constantly striving to evolve our offering and bring new and exciting venues and events to the estate. We’re confident that the Curling Lanes and The Curling Club will do just this and will be a very welcome addition to Spinningfields across the winter”.

The Curling Lanes will open Monday 16 November and will remain open throughout the winter until February 2016. Open daily from 10am until 10pm. More information at thecurlinglanes.co.uk.
