FIRST it was Lucha Libre to go in Great Northern Square, now pour-your-own-beer establishment Taps has announced that it is closing down at the end of August.

The original table beer pumps have long been removed to a huge beer wall, however, the switch is thought to have affected business; as has the shift in zeitgeist from draught lager to more crafty brews.
The bar in Great Northern Square was sold last year to Manchester Business School student Chris Payne, along with upstairs champagne lounge Epernay. However, following a 'very hard year' it became clear Taps was 'no longer a viable business', according to a statement realeased by owners.
Though all is not doom and gloom, as the owners have revealed that beer will remain the focal point of an entirely new venture at the site.
Inspired by 1960s decor and serving something other than burgers and tapas, the new venue is expected to open sometime in October.
Taps will close at the end of AugustTaps released the following statement on Facebook:
‘Dear faithful friends and customers,
'As of Sunday 30th August, Taps Bar and Restaurant will officially be closing down. That Sunday will be the last day you will be able to pour your own beer!
'Last summer, the current owners took over Taps as a project that needed working on. Unfortunately, after a very hard year it became clear that Taps was no longer a viable business. We are incredibly grateful for everybody’s custom over the years and we are sorry that the pour your own feature is coming to an end.
'On a much brighter note, we are opening up a brand new, incredible bar which will be opening this October. We are all massively excited about this project which we know is going to provide this city with yet another incredible venue.
