THE POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a man´s burned decapitated body was found early this morning in Stockport. Fire crews who were called to a fire near Wellington Street found the man´s body, believed to have been in his 20s, at the scene. The police have arrested two men in connection to the case. 

LUGUBRIOUS painter LS Lowry is among the 277 names on a just released list of people that have turned down the Queen´s honours. It also reveals that Lowry has turned more honours down than anyone else, or five in total, including an OBE, a CBE and a knighthood. The list includes names such as CS Lewis, Alfred Hitchcock, Aldous Huxley and more. 

SCRAP metal thieves caused £100,000 worth of damage when stealing wiring worth £100 in Middleton. Climbing past high voltage cables to reach the top of a 165ft tall tower they cut down an earth wire, meant to protect against lightning strikes. Desmond Brady has pleaded guilty to attempted theft and damaging property in court and was warned by a judge, a jail sentence was very likely due to the extent of the damage. 

ARGENTINIAN striker Carlos Tevez is out £9.3m in wages, fines and lost bonuses in his continuous dispute with Manchester City. He was fined £1.2m for refusing to return from Argentina, and additionally has not been paid his salary since late November. City is looking to sell the striker but unless getting a £25m offer, Tevez will stay with City.
