Andrew Green swaps The River for Mamucium - opening next to Victoria Station
Five star hotel The Lowry is looking to recruit a replacement executive head chef after Andrew Green announced he is to leave The River Restaurant after three years.
Green has been named as the chef responsible for launching a new dining venture, Mamucium, situated within the new Hotel Indigo Manchester next to Victoria Station.
Mamucium was the name given to the original Roman fort established in 78AD in what is now Castlefield - at the other end of Deansgate.
There will be a particular focus on traditional Northern dishes
Due to open this autumn, Mamucium will be a fine dining restaurant serving “classic, locally sourced food” with a particular focus on traditional Northern dishes. This suits chef Green’s style of cooking, which earned two AA rosettes for the Lowry hotel’s River restaurant.
The interior of the new 120-seater restaurant has been designed by 3DReid and described as a “luxurious setting with Art Deco influences”.
“I’m really excited about the opening of Mamucium and the new opportunities it will bring," Andrew told The Caterer magazine, who featured him on their shortlist last year for their Hotel Chef of the Year Award.
"I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and looking forward to adding another exciting and premium dining destination to the Manchester scene," he added.
James Houlston, managing director of BH Group, the developer behind Mamucium, added: “We are so pleased to welcome Andrew to our team. His food is second to none and his passion and authenticity for local and seasonally sourced food complements our vision of Mamucium perfectly.
"He was undoubtedly the ideal chef for this venture and we cannot wait to introduce his creations to diners in the city.”
