Plenty of crafty ideas at Burton Road beer bar
PERFECT for whiling away an evening or afternoon, self-styled neighbourhood craft beer bar Saison has draft artisan beer and cider coming out of its ears, with sixteen taps on the go at any one time. Sixteen taps – count ’em!
The choices change so regularly, the team has even introduced Craft Beer Clearance on Thursday’s Beer & Burger Night, when you can sup up your latest favourite before the next one to discover gets introduced.
And as well as pouring some of the world’s best (and rarest) ales (there are also 40-plus bottles to work your way through, by the way), Saison has carefully sourced wines and spirits for the discerning palate, not to mention great locally sourced food.
Theres plenty to choose from, including some locally and responsibly sourced seasonal specials fresh for autumn, British favourites like fish and chips, and Sunday roasts to die for – with giant Yorkshires so big they give even the size of the county they’re named after a run for its money!
Saison is a cosy place to hole up, perfect for sharing a few hours with family and friends – and some good food too, with a newly updated selection of small plates to dig into. Right now, if you choose three sharing dishes, you can also share three meticulously matched bottles of beers (or a bottle of house wine, if you prefer), all for just £25.
We’ll put our money where our mouth is with these picks: sesame prawn tacos with crispy greens and homemade sweet chilli jam; cheese and IPA rarebit with watercress and chutney, and coffee-seared flat iron steak, with chilli and chocolate jus, and beetroot purée, just perfect for the chillier weather.
Don’t care to share? Us too, sometimes! No worries – there are other great plates too, including more burgers than you can shake a stick at – we’d recommend sinking your teeth into the crispy tofu burger with roasted red peppers and spinach, beef tomato, smoked aubergine and lip-smacking house ketchup.
And if you’re looking to have a bit of a do, the spacious upstairs room, complete with its own private bar, is available to hire out – for free!
