A PROLIFIC car thief has been banned from entering any car park in Manchester city centre.
The ASBO, which lasts until January 2015, bans Froggatt from entering any private or public car park within the city, as well as from entering a large area of Strangeways, carrying a brick or stone in a public place and from touching or entering any unattended vehicle without the owner’s permission.
Michael FroggattMichael Froggatt, aged 26 and from Cromwell Grove in Salford, has also been banned from using the Metrolink system or entering any Metrolink car park in Greater Manchester.
Manchester City Council successfully applied for an ASBO against Froggatt, formerly of Ulundi Street in Radcliffe, which was granted at Bury and Rochdale Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 October.
The ASBO, which lasts until January 2015, bans Froggatt from entering any private or public car park within the city, as well as from entering a large area of Strangeways, carrying a brick or stone in a public place and from touching or entering any unattended vehicle without the owner’s permission.
Froggatt has got a long history of convictions, which including theft from a vehicle, shop lifting, assault on a police officer and taking a vehicle without consent.
Most prolific are his motor vehicle offences, however, with a string of offences since 2008, such as repeated smash and grab incidents ranging from theft of property to vehicle theft and has seen a succession of jail sentences – most recently in June of this year when Froggat was imprisoned for 5 months for the theft of a sat nav and mobile phone from a lorry.
Cllr Bernard Priest, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: "City centre visitors and workers, as well as the community around the Strangeways area should be able to park their cars without fear of returning to a crime scene. The wide area that is covered through this order and the restrictions placed on Froggatt reflects not only the prolific criminality of this man, but also indicates our determination to help protect people across the city.”
