SUMMER’S finally here and if you’re looking for a place that embodies the quintessential British holiday, look no further than Haydock Park. It may not be beside the seaside, but ‘Rock, Chips & Magic Tricks’, its family fun day, brings all the retro entertainment you’d expect from a beachfront resort.
Wander down memory lane with candy striped tents housing hoop-la, hook a duck and coconut shies then treat yourself to a bag of chips. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, there’s all manner of sugary seaside treats, from ice cream to rock and candy floss.
With computers everywhere and TVs blaring, it’s easy to forget the simpler pleasures of times gone by but they really are something the whole family can enjoy together, kids, parents and grandparents alike.
There’ll be traditional pastimes like Punch and Judy shows, a carousel and magic tricks and lots to do to keep little ones amused with face painting, craft activities and inflatable derby hoppers – perfect for finding out what it’s like to be a jockey. A jockey of an inflatable horse that is.
With buckets and spades, music and even a couple of yellow coats, Haydock Park has almost everything a seaside resort has. Admittedly, it doesn’t have donkey rides, but it has something even better. Thursday 7 August is raceday so as well as enjoying all the fun of the fair, you also get all the thrills and spills of flat racing too. Fancy a flutter?
Children can enjoy the racing too. Depending on the ticket you buy, they can explore the racecourse, meeting all the horses before and after each race in the parade ground.
Situated just off junction 23 on the M6, Haydock Park is an easy drive from both Manchester and Liverpool and with free parking, it’s a hassle-free day out, leaving you free to concentrate on having fun. That’s not all – tickets start at just £11.70 and children under 17 go free when accompanied by a paying adult.
‘Rock, Chips and Magic Tricks’, Haydock Park’s family fun day is on Thursday 7 August.
