What we say
Sweet Dreams causes you to question your relationship with fast food and the way we consume it, even before it reaches our mouths through the media (kind of ironic that I’m writing this for a food and drink magazine, but hey ho).
Created by award-winning artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast, this one-hour-long immersive experience combines animation, cinema and interaction.
Entering the Real Good Chicken Company’s headquarters (The Warehouse at Aviva Studios, which has been carefully transformed into a series of rooms with various interactive elements), guests are introduced to the company mascot Chicky Ricky (voiced by TikTok and Taskmaster star Munya Chawawa). Here, you learn about the history of the business, the rise and fall of fried chicken, and the dark secrets of RGC.
Each room has its own theme, from working at the RGC factory to mass-produce the famous ‘Chick-burg’ burger, to the melancholy funeral service of Mr Chicky Ricky himself.
Designed to entertain those of all ages, there’s elements that will peak the interest of adults and, thankfully, go over the heads of children (the ortolan part gets dark quickly), whilst the theatrical elements give kids the chance to, essentially, play with their food.
This weird and wonderful journey into the food chain, created in collaboration with award-winning writer and former chef Simon Wroe and French artist mcbess, is on at Aviva Studios until 1 September.
