Nordoff Robbins. It’s a charity, that virtually invented music therapy; put together by musicians in the sixties and is arguably today the most respected charity of its type in the world.
Originally, the charity was very southern-centric, so the idea of raising funds here in the North West is to prevent having to bus people all the way to London for treatment. The point is, these people, many of them children, tend to be traumatised enough already and rely on the beneficial effects of music therapy to get them back into the world.
Today, driven and funded by Mancunians, Nordoff have full time therapists working out of Christies and the Children’s Hospitals across the North West. These are funded by charity gigs like the one we are now punting to you lovely people.
We all know it’s great to help these charities, particularly when they are in our back yard.
The Nordoff Robbins ball is being held at The Principal hotel - currently the best place to have these affairs; the food at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards was, according to Gordo, chief food writer on the Confidentials, the best he’s had outside of The Dorchester in London.
