A flashback to Gordo's golden years
It’s nearly 10 years since Almost Famous, Great Northern, opened. Owned by the extraordinary Beau Myers who singlehandedly brought us the Dirty Burger with advertising campaigns reported by our Roving Editor Jonathan Schofield thus;
‘Almost Famous' point of difference was the food quality. Behind all the cheeky marketing of sexy girls covered in sauce, pouting, tossing their hair and licking their fingers while mouthing the word 'dirty' it was the excellent burgers that won people over.
The pictures are generally shite, but hey-ho, they’re fun.
Beau let it be known that he was slaughtering Unicorns for the main ingredient. When Jonathan Schofield interviewed him a week before the launch party, he asked Beau if there was a door policy.
"We'll be different in our door policy too," continues Myers. "In fact I've got the heads of the door staff spinning. Let anybody in, this is a burger bar not fine dining, I told them. Jeans, trainers, baseball caps, even, for God's sake, reversed baseball caps.
"They looked disappointed. Is there any real door policy at all they begged me. Yes, I said, don't let gingers in.”
Gordo, currently steering well clear of the fun police came across a bunch of pictures - taken on his then iPhone 3 - and decided to run this article. The pictures are generally shite, but hey-ho, they’re fun. You can spot Lucy Noone along with Thom Hetherington as well as yours truly and the aforementioned Schofield. Blimey.
