AGYNESS Deyn has been a busy bee of late. Whilst being an international fashion icon, the BFF to designer Henry Holland and the general party rocker that she is, she’s also cooked up a capsule collection for Dr Martens. Although, calling the collection a capsule isn’t exactly justified as the range covers everything from the typical Dr Martens boot right the way through to khaki Parkas and chunky knits. It would seem Miss Deyn isn’t just a pretty face, after all.

Whilst the reversible bomber jacket is certainly a cool customer, the classic over-sized overcoat gets the thumbs up for androgynous fabulousness.

I attended a brief soirée at the new Manchester Market Street Dr Martens store, for an exclusive preview of the new collection before it goes on general sale from Wednesday 15 August. Whilst the collection offers many surprises and gives the grungy fashionista plenty of reasons to surrender her cash, I have selected a few pieces that are worth a special mention.

Dr Martens may be all about the boots, but I was all about the bag. Four heart-shaped satchels take pride of place among the collection, in classic black and cheery red soft leathers and lilac and acid green patent colour-ways. The satchel has detachable straps and can be worn as a backpack too, so it’s perfect for the punk kid at school and even the daring Mum at the playground gates.

Whilst the reversible bomber jacket is certainly a cool customer, the classic over-sized overcoat gets the thumbs up for androgynous fabulousness. With a drop shoulder, double-breasted front and subtle lilac lining it’s the perfect just-throw-it-on coat for the coming season. It works well for the boys too, trust me.

A review of a Dr Martens collection wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the footwear and, whilst the strength of the collection is undoubtedly in the leather goods, the creeper shoes are just a bit special. They are certainly not the style of choice for the mainstream shopper but they are representative of the work Deyn has put into this collaboration. The double thick sole, that propels these shoes upwards from the ground, is a characteristic Deyn dug out of the Dr Martens archive, as she remembers the style from her childhood Dr Martens.

For the rest, you’ll have to pop into the Dr Martens store or have a gander online but know this: the Agyness Deyn for Dr Martens collection is certainly worth a look, even if you’re just going to try on the fluorescent pink and daisy print bomber jacket for a cheeky twit-pic.
