THE Radisson Blu Edwardian played host to a Gatsby style charity ball to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Christie Cancer Charity.
Sophie and Hayley are now turning their attention to other events to get them to the their fundraising target of £10,000 for the charities, as well as embarking on a rigorous training regime for the big climb in October.
Guests arrived dressed in sequins, feathers, pinstripes and bowler hats to a champagne drinks reception complete with 1920s style flapper girl dancers and jazz singer entertainment.
The night continued with a fantastic fusion of food and music from the glamorous 1920s era, including a Harlem swing jazz band, magician and the grand finale, Lulu Macaroon – the girl who puts the ‘Bang in Burlesque’.
The night was organised by Hayley Harthern, 28 from Manchester, and Sophie Baxter, 26 from Wilmslow, who are both climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the charities in October this year.
“We decided in a moment of madness last year that we wanted to take on a big challenge for charity in 2014, and you don’t get much bigger than climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world” says Sophie.
“Both cancer charities do such amazing work and are close to our hearts. So far we have raised over £7000 for the Christie and Macmillan, and £3000 of this has been through the Prohibition Party alone, so we are over the moon with this result – it definitely gives us the boost we need to get us to the top!” added Hayley.
The night also included a raffle with coveted prizes including a celebrity chef signed jacket – donated personally by James Martin and signed by himself, Tom Kerridge and Brian Turner - a boxing glove signed by multiple boxing champion Ricky Hatton, a football signed by the 2014 Premier League champions Manchester City, £200 to spend at Neighbourhood Restaurant and Bar and many more items.
